Beyond the Canvas Tour: The Architecture of The Clyfford Still Museum
As unique as the art it holds, The Clyfford Still Museum is conceived as a solid, a mass of concrete, crushed granite and quartz—a single construction that is opened up by natural light. The body of the building becomes the source of light for the art.
The Clyfford Still Museum is a dense, cantilevered two-story building of richly worked concrete deriving its presence from the earth. The two-story, 28,500-square-foot building was designed by Brad Cloepfil of Allied Works Architecture specifically to display Clyfford Still’s work. Come join this tour to hear the story behind this design. August 1st is “Pay What You Wish” day at Clyfford Still in honor of Colorado's 150th birthday so entrance to the museum is as little as one penny. This tour is included with admission to the museum.
