Ever wonder about the hidden meanings behind angels, broken columns, clasped hands, ivy, and other mysterious symbols carved into beautiful Victorian headstones?
Join us on this special 2ndSummit guided walk through Denver's historic Fairmount Cemetery. Tales Tombstones Tell is rooted in history, art, and cultural traditions. The program was developed after volunteer guide Sue Small spent years researching funerary iconography and Victorian symbolism, creating a tour that helps visitors decode the stories carved into the stone.
Along the way, you'll uncover the lives of Colorado pioneers, civic leaders, and everyday citizens whose stories helped shape our state. It's part history, part art, and full of surprising discoveries that will forever change the way you look at cemeteries!
After the tour, 2ndSummit will host an on-site picnic so we can kickback and discuss everything we learned!

Janice and Robin were spot on. I’m so embarrassed that I do not remember our amazing guide’s name Amira???? The young man supporting her was also so amazing. Witnessing their passion was truly enlightening. The treats at the end, the welcoming and inclusiveness was more than expected. I learned so much and will sign up for Riverside tomorrow. Tour guide was excellent Janice did a great job organizing. A very pleasant tour.
The tour was very informative and the guide knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I have had a tour several years ago but this time we learned about the symbols on the gravestones. My entire family is in the mausoleum and I will be there also.
Nice tour. Speaker would have benefited from a microphone. Created great interest in a tour describing the history of people buried at Fairmount.

Before you Arrive
Meeting place: Ivy Chapel at Fairmount Cemetery. Park in the visitor's parking lot off of Quebec, just south of Alameda Avenue.
