From Page to Screen - Nickel Boys (2024) with Director RaMell Ross 9/10/26

ONE BOOK, ONE DENVER. Denver Public Library’s One Book One Denver program invites you to a live, in-person discussion with filmmaker RaMell Ross, director and co-writer of Nickel Boys (2024).

Film maker RaMell Ross will discuss the journey of adapting Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel for the screen, from developing the film’s distinctive first-person perspective to translating Elwood and Turner’s experiences, friendship, and contrasting worldviews into a visual form.

The conversation will explore the artistic choices that shaped the film, the real history behind the fictional Nickel Academy, and the challenges of adapting a celebrated novel while preserving its emotional and historical complexity.
