Denver Premiere: "People of the Sacred Land"
This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, reserve a spot for the Denver premiere of People of the Sacred Land, a compelling new documentary examining the history, legacy, and continuing realities of Indigenous land rights in Colorado and beyond.
Created in collaboration with eight16 creative and the filmmakers, the documentary follows Richard Williams (Oglala Lakota, Northern Cheyenne) as he explores the often-untold history of Colorado through the findings of the Truth, Restoration, and Education Commission (TREC) reports.
The film raises challenging questions about colonization, land rights, and the responsibilities we have to understand the history of the places we call home. It offers an opportunity to consider Colorado's history through Native-led research and perspectives, and to engage with a story that is rarely part of the traditional telling of the American West.
