Astronomy Meets Music in the Cosmos

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science turns the cosmos into a concert hall with Black Hole Symphony… an immersive experience combining a live orchestra, spectacular planetarium visuals, and the latest discoveries in astrophysics.

Travel billions of years through space and time as music and science collide, exploring the birth of the universe and the supermassive black holes that once blazed at the centers of galaxies. The experience unfolds in five musical movements, with an original score by composer David Ibbett and stunning animations from the Charles Hayden Planetarium.

The project began in 2018 when composer David Ibbett and astrophysicist Anna Barnacka set out to create a new kind of storytelling—one that could connect audiences to the universe through both music and science. Their vision soon expanded through a collaboration with James Monroe and the animation team at the Museum of Science, Boston, along with scientists from the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian and the Black Hole Initiative.
