Maybe you've heard the tales of ghosts and graves in Cheesman Park. Now's your chance to learn the real story about your city's beloved park!
What better way to get into the Halloween spirit than a stroll through one of Denver’s most beautiful parks... with a past that’s far spookier than its peaceful lawns and leafy paths suggest!
Join 2ndSummit for a fascinating Historic Denver walking tour of Cheesman Park, where we’ll uncover the eerie history behind this beloved urban oasis. This Capitol Hill treasure served as Denver’s first cemetery for the general public, and its transformation is a story worthy of a Halloween thriller.
Originally established as Mount Prospect Cemetery in 1858, the burial ground eventually became overcrowded and neglected. In the late 1800s, the city decided to turn the property into a park, setting off a controversial effort to relocate the graves.
The cemetery’s conversion inspired stories of forgotten remains, disturbed graves, and lingering spirits. How much is documented history, and how much is Denver legend? We’ll explore the real events behind the spooky reputation.
Enjoy the crisp autumn air, beautiful park scenery, intriguing local history, and just enough cemetery lore to make you look twice at those quiet lawns.
